For 18 long years, Royal Challengers Bengaluru were cricket’s most heartbroken franchise — talented, passionate, star-studded, yet somehow always falling just short. Then came Rajat Patidar. In two seasons, this quiet, unassuming captain from Madhya Pradesh has turned RCB from perennial nearly-men into something nobody saw coming — a dynasty.

## The Quiet Captain Who Changed Everything

Rajat Patidar has become only the third skipper to win back-to-back IPL titles, joining an elite list alongside Chennai Super Kings’ MS Dhoni and Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma. But unlike those two legends who arrived at their back-to-back triumphs with World Cup medals and generational legacies already in place, Patidar’s route to this peak has been remarkably different — quieter, more understated, and perhaps more impressive for it.

Under his leadership, RCB ended an 18-year title drought by defeating Punjab Kings to win the 2025 IPL championship — and then came back in 2026 and did it all over again against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

## The Man the Cameras Always Miss

Former India opener Aakash Chopra noted that Patidar once again flew under the radar — no one talks about him much or focuses on him — yet he is always there, making the right moves throughout the entire season. That description alone tells you everything about what kind of leader he is. No fuss, no theatre — just results.

Patidar had already etched his name in IPL history in 2022 during the Eliminator, scoring 112 not out off 54 balls against Lucknow Super Giants, becoming the first uncapped player to register a century in the IPL playoffs. That innings was the first glimpse of the ice-cold performer hiding underneath the modest exterior. RCB fans are glad they saw it.

## What Anil Kumble Said Before the Season

Before IPL 2026 had even begun, former India cricketer Anil Kumble warned that it would not be easy for Rajat Patidar’s RCB to win back-to-back titles, noting that only CSK and MI had managed to win trophies consecutively before. Patidar read that, filed it away, and went and did it anyway.

## Virat Kohli’s Role in the Story

No RCB story is complete without him. On winning the 2025 title, Patidar said that Virat Kohli and all the fans deserved the win more than anyone else. A year later, with a second trophy in hand, that sentiment rings even truer. The king of RCB and the quiet captain — together, they’ve built something that might just last.

CSK had Dhoni. MI had Rohit. And now RCB have Patidar — the captain nobody expected, delivering the dynasty nobody thought possible. Two titles. Two finals. Zero excuses. The Red Army has arrived, and they’re not leaving. 🔴👑
