Before the Test Series between India & England, the selectors declare an 18 member Squad excluding Bhuvi, who is on his way back home due to injury
After the eight-wicket loss to hosts England in the third One-Day International at Leeds, selectors makes an 18 member test squad. The team suffers a huge blow after the Indian pacer Bhuveneshwar Kumar gets ruled out of the squad. The test series starts on 1st August and there will be 5 Test matches.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar aggravated a lower back condition in the 3rd ODI against England. His condition is being assessed by the BCCI medical team and a call on his inclusion in the Test squad will be made soon,” a statement issued by the Board read.
Bhuvi has been ruled out of the first three Test against England at — Edgbaston, Lord’s and Trent Bridge. If he recovers by then, he will be available for the other two…
THE SQUAD:
- Batsmen: Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli(C), Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Lokesh Rahul, Karun Nair Wicketkeepers: Dinesh Karthik, Rishabh Pant
- All-rounder: Hardik Pandya
- Spinners: Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav
- Pacers: Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur.
Young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been named in the 18-member India squad for the first three Tests. But, senior pro player Rohit Sharma was once again ignored for the longest format.
The man-in-form Dinesh Karthik, who had played the team’s last Test against Afghanistan, in the absence of an injured Wriddhiman Saha will continue for this series.
Mohammad Shami, who wasn’t fit for the one-off Test against Afghanistan in June, has made his way back for the five-match series. Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav could be the two other pacers if India goes in with three fast bowlers.
