An 18-year-old football player, Priya, who lost her right leg due to a botched surgery died at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital today morning. Priya who was in the intensive care unit at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital developed kidney, and heart-related problems and succumbed to multiple organ failures today at 7.15 am.
The Minister also said Priya was well when he visited her on Sunday. “However, there was a multiple organ failure due to issues in blood flow past midnight, and she passed away this morning at 7.15 am,” the Minister said. He stated that the treatment was not wrong but the death was caused due to medical negligence.

Priya was a state-level football player. She was completing a degree in Physical Education at Queen Mary’s College in Chennai. Priya had been suffering a ligament tear in her knee and was taken to Government Peripheral Hospital in Periyar Nagar recently.
On Monday, Priya lost her leg after two follow-up surgeries since the first surgery on November 7 at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. Two doctors have been suspended and the health minister of the state has assured legal action. After Priya’s demise, Health Minister Ma Subramanian visited the hospital and met her family.
Tamil Nadu BJP chief Annamalai slammed the DMK-led state government. “Shocking news of the death of college student, football player sister Priya at Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital, Chennai due to wrong treatment by government doctors during surgery,” he tweeted.
“Every department is destroyed in this DMK regime in disappointing that the medical department has joined that list. Government should suspend both doctors provide a government job for the family member and grant a solatium of 2 crore rupees,” he added.
