Intel isn’t stopping with launching dozens of 12th Gen laptop processors but also launching new high-end laptop SKUs to shred apart the competition. Their upcoming desktop calibre Core i9-12900HX is a serious contender to leave AMD to dust as finally, this 16-core/ 20-thread monster makes its way to Geekbench.
Obviously, this will be the first 16-core laptop CPU by Intel which will feature more cores and threads than the current flagship i.e. Core i9-12900HKÂ that maxes out with 14 cores and 20 threads. So, with the Intel Core i9-12900HX, you will see two additional Performance cores and in the leaked benchmark it was spotted running at a base clock of 2.5 GHz and a boost of 4.89 GHz.
While this might be the only benchmark leak, we expect this CPU to easily cross 5.0 GHz as these results will surely improve with the launch. The processor was spotted running on a Lenovo system which is equipped with GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU and you can easily guess more new flagship gaming laptops coming with this beastly combo inside.
Coming to scores, you see this flagship Core i9-12900HX posts desktop-like scores on Geekbench, scoring 1921 points in the single-core test and 15,974 points in multicore. Compared to the current flagship i.e. Core i9-12900HK, you see 7% and 14% better performance respectively in Geekbench.
These scores are suspected to improve and thanks to a higher TDP of 55W, both of these upcoming Alder Lake-HX processors: 12900HX and 12650HX will have significant performance upgrades with thermals to be managed as well. These new Intel SKUs are supposed to launch alongside the upcoming desktop flagship i.e. Intel Core i9-12900KS in the coming days.
