Apple 15inch MacBook Air display panels production reportedly underway

According to renowned display analyst Ross Young, panel production for the larger-screened 15inch MacBook Air began in February, increased in March, and is expected to ramp up again in April. Young stated that he doesn’t know the “precise launch timing” at this time, but he believes it may occur in “late April/early May.”

Young previously predicted that the 15inch MacBook Air might go on sale in April, but his prediction may have been a little too optimistic. It appears unlikely that Apple will announce a new version of the MacBook Air via press release at this time, and a spring Apple event does not appear to be happening.

Given that WWDC is less than two months away, it might make the most sense for Apple to unveil the 15inch MacBook Air on June 5 at the Worldwide Developers Conference Keynote before a June launch.

In any case, it appears that a larger MacBook Air will be released in the first half of the year, joining the 13.6-inch model. According to rumours, the MacBook Air may have a 15.5-inch display, making it roughly the same size as the now-discontinued 15.4-inch MacBook Pro.

It would be available in a size that falls between the 13.6-inch MacBook Air and the 16-inch MacBook Pro, providing a non-“Pro” option for those who want a more affordable, lighter, and more svelte machine with a larger display size.

The current M2 model, which might also get a refresh along with the new 15-inch model, is expected to share the same design language as the 15inch MacBook Air. It is unclear which specific chip the MacBook Air will use, but it may be one of the M2 and M2 Pro chips currently in use or, if it is ready for launch by WWDC, one of the M3 chip series.
